The Psycho Gets the Job

Diplomatic! Posted by Picasa

The wheels are finally in motion now for our attack against Iran. The final role has been cast. In a pathetic, lame duck move, George W. Bush bypassed Congress by installing John Bolton, a complete psychotic neo-conservative, as our UN ambassador via recess appointment. This recess appointment comes 5 months after Bush nominated Bolton for the post. Bolton arrived at the UN 5 hours later to the sound of booing. Watch the booing and the response by democrats and republicans here. If you're not familiar with why Bolton is a total and complete joke for this position, watch Bolton scream like a total psychotic about how much he detests this international body and how "if you lost 10 stories (of the 38 storied UN building) today, it wouldn't make a bit of difference." Wow, how diplomatic! And how typical of this disgustingly arrogant, greedy administration. After 9/11, the world was with us. And Bush flipped them off. Bolton will do the same.

But don't take my word for it, take the objection of 100 diplomats who fiercely oppose the appointment of John Bolton to the post of UN ambassador. So what's the rush? The August 1, 2005 issue of The American Conservative reports that Vice President Dick Cheney’s office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. "The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. Several senior Air Force officers involved in the planning are reportedly appalled at the implications of what they are doing—that Iran is being set up for an unprovoked nuclear attack—but no one is prepared to damage his career by posing any objections." So you see this administration doesn't want to protect us from another 9/11 type attack. They seem to welcome it as it is their chance to steal more oil.

I don't mean to gloat, but does anyone recall the question I posed to you in my June posting-Saddam Likes Doritos? I asked: "To build a pipeline from Iraq to the Caspian Sea, you must go through which countries? Hint: When Bolton receives his recess appointment, you'll find out. We will be invading them next." I hate it when I'm right.

Democrats in the Senate had drafted a document accusing Bolton, undersecretary of state for arms control, of "four distinct patterns of conduct" that disqualify him for the post. Those 4 are that Bolton regularly tried to stretch intelligence to fit his views. He exhibited abusive behavior and intolerance for alternative views, repeatedly trying to fire intelligence analysts who disagreed with him. He repeatedly made "misleading, disingenuous or non-responsive statements" to the Foreign Relations Committee during his confirmation hearing.

The findings in this document were based on more than 30 interviews, a review of public documents, media reports and documents provided by the Bush administration. This recess appointment comes about a week after it was discovered that Bolton had lied during his confirmation hearing. Bolton gave the Senate false information when he failed to note on a questionnaire that he had been questioned by the department's inspector general as part of a joint probe by the State Department and CIA into allegations that Iraq attempted to obtain uranium from Niger in Africa. The State Department acknowledged the error in Bolton's statement last week.

So you see, any time I hear that the Democrats in Congress are trying to work with the President or the Congressional Republicans, I ask why? This administration and it's foot soldiers in Congress don't give a shit about us Democrats, our military, our poor, our hungry, or the innocent Iraqi's they've killed and the innocent Iranians they plan to kill.

Back to the Clinton days... remember Richard Holbrooke, who Republicans delayed for 14 months as Bill Clinton's nominee to the U.N.? Holbrooke refused to bypass the Senate with a recess appointment, saying that it would introduce him to "the world body with no credibility or authority." Oh, the good ol' days of diplomacy and respect.

Well, I looked at the video. Its unfortunate that we couldn't view it in its entirety. Its pretty easy to take things out of context, depending on how its edited. I saw a guy that was pretty adamant about his position. Psycho? Psycho would have been jumping over the table and throttling Mr. Childers' throat, which I didn't see Mr. Bolton do. Considering the source you used for the video(an anti-Bolton site run by Citizens for Global Solutions?), I would assume they would have included that footage had Mr. Bolton jumped the table. Mr. Childers (rest his soul), on the other hand, had been pretty adamant in his writings in his anti-American sentiments. 'Neo-imperialists' was the term for the USA he used, I believe.

Perhaps it makes no difference to you, but it seems that an organization that has people raping women they're supposed to be protecting and stealing money in the oil-for-food scandal could use someone willing to stand up and call it like it is.

Just recently, Donald Trump (I know, another one of those dog-gone ultra-rich capitalists..sigh)advised Congress that the remodeling project the UN was proposing was basically double ($1.3 Billion)what he calculated at 600 million he could do it for, assuming the UN wouldn't have cost overruns (unlikely). As a developer in New York, I would assume he would know. Moreover, in his conversations with the project manager at the UN, Mr. Trump advised Congress that the project manager was essentially clueless as to construction...not a good thing in dealing with New York contractors. Yes, we need more waste and corruption from that bunch instead of feeding starving children or fighting aids.

Is this the UN you're so worried about that a man like Mr. Bolton might upset somebody? Looking at the UN historically, it started out as a Euro-American construct to counter-balance the Soviet Union and later, China. Who do you think was pulling the strings back then, Poland? Considering the actual power the United States wielded economically and militarily at the time, why bother having an international organization in the first place? There's never been a question that America could turn the Middle East into a glass parking lot and just get the oil. So, why haven't we?

Perhaps you're right. Maybe Mr. Bolton isn't the right guy for that position.

Hi. It's me again. I still haven't an account here. But if I write more posts, I should probably get one.

You are right, that guy is the worst candidate you can get. We are talking about a diplomat. Most important in this job is: Good representation of your own country and good treatment of other diplomats even so the government of their countries might want to blow up the world.

That guy is hated by the whole world already BEFORE he started his job. He should better go to the army or intelligence service where they need people with his qualification.
By the way: Who isn't calling the USA neo-imperialists? I don't kow anybody. I thought, we agreed on that term already.
I don't expect you to read middle-asian newspapers (I don't do this regulary, too), but maybe have a look in European newspapers to get an impression of how the world thinks about the USA. Or start with watching other TV channels then FOX.

Thanks anonymous- it's always good to see that there is someone else out there who gets it and isn't trying as hard as he can to hold on to a shred of hope that his president isn't a crook 10 times worse than Nixon ever dreamed he could be.

As for you guitanguran, you need to put down Donald Trump's "The Art of the Deal", and read a newspaper. Read up on Bolton. How he has chased people, thrown things and screamed at people. He also believes that Fidel Castro is building WMD's. The analyst that negated that caught hell from Milk Mustache. And while you're reading check out how little this administration has done about Sudan- and how late they were with their pathetic assistance. SUDAN HAS NO OIL. GET IT?

Whew! Looks like I'm the one getting beat up here. Never read Mr. Trump's book, btw. Well, maybe I'm just wrong. I guess America is a horrible place with horrible people doing horrible things to everyone else in the world, and George Bush, Karl Rove, and John Bolton simply exemplify the worst of what this country is all about.

As I've previously stated, there's alot about the Bush administration I hate. His border and immigration policies will no doubt wipe this country off the planet if allowed to come pass, for example.

As to the rest, its just politics, after all. There's not one whit of difference between when it comes ordinary citizens. Elephants and donkeys are equally adept at screwing me over. On a national level, all of them need to be fired from their jobs.

Even so, not one word from you about the level of corruption and out and out criminality that pervades the UN. If the UN is not going reform itself, it wouldn't matter if we put Daffy Duck in as ambassador. Somehow what they do is OK and what Bush does is criminal. At least I'm intellectually honest enough to call a spade a spade, no matter my idealogy. All I hear is, "well of course that's horrible about that country, person, or organization, but..." and off again about America and Bush and Republicans of every stripe. Its glossed over as a matter of course.

Compared to the level of corruption and criminality on the Bush administration, the problems at the UN are chicken feed.

And there's another significant difference: The people behind the corruption at the UN are being caught and tried. Bush and his band of crooks are still in office and not being held accountable to anyone.
